As You Pray in the Spirit
Ephesians 6:18 (NIV) And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests…
1 Corinthians 14:14-15 (NIV) For if I pray in a tongue, my spirit prays, but my mind is unfruitful. So what shall I do? I will pray with my spirit, but I will also pray with my mind; I will sing with my spirit, but I will also sing with my mind.
Jude 1:20 (Living Bible) But you, dear friends, must build up your lives ever more strongly upon the foundation of our holy faith, learning to pray n the power and strength of the Holy Spirit.
Whenever you pray in tongues, though you don not comprehend what you are saying, the Holy Spirit is helping you to speak directly to God (1 Cor. 14:2) and to pray and speak the mind of God (Rom. 8:26-27). As such, you must pray n tongues with boldness and confidence. You must also keep your mind on Christ and the wonderful things He has done for you. In John 14:26 (GNB), Jesus said, “The Helper, the Holy Spirit, … will teach you everything and make you remember all that I have told you.” One of the major assignments of the Holy Spirit is to glorify Christ (John 16:14) by manifesting the life and power of Christ in your life. Often times, the Holy Spirit begins this operation by stirring up your remembrance and consciousness of Christ and the wonderful things He has done for you. You should also allow this consciousness of Christ and the things He has done for you to make you joyful and thankful as you pray and sing in the Spirit, Eph. 5:18-20.
Ephesians 5:18-20 (NLT) says, “Don’t be drunk with wine, because that will ruin your life. Instead, be filled with the Holy Spirit, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs among yourselves, and making music to the Lord in your hearts. And give thanks for everything to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.” When the Holy Spirit came upon the Jews for the first time, they were declaring the wonders of God in other tongues (Acts 2:11), and when He came on the Gentiles for the first time, they spoke in tongues and magnified God, Acts 10:44-46.
