| Seeing People with the Eyes of Love |
|
Mark 10:21 (GNB), Mark 8:23-25 (NIV)Jesus looked straight at him with love and said, "You need only one thing. Go and sell all you have and give the money to the poor, and you will have riches in heaven; then come and follow me." *…, Jesus asked, "Do you see anything?" He looked up and said, "I see people; they look like trees walking around." Once more Jesus put his hands on the man's eyes. Then his eyes were opened, his sight was restored, and he saw everything clearly.
1Corinthians 13:2 reveals to us that anything we do without love amounts to nothing. This means that it is the love in our hearts that really gives value to our words and actions. God wants us to do everything that we do with love. He wants us to love one another just like Christ loves us. Ephesians 5:1-2 says, be ye therefore followers of God, as dear children; And walk in love, as Christ also hath loved us, and hath given himself for us an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweet smelling savour. Your perception of people affects your reaction towards them. Until you begin to see people the way Jesus sees them, you will be unable to love them the way Jesus would love them if He were in your shoes.
Now, loving people does not mean that we should deny them the truth. Ephesians 4:15 implores us to speak the truth in love and grow into Christ in all things. Jesus did not only tell the rich young ruler the truth in our first text above. The Bible is clear that He looked at him and loved him first. Loving him did not also stop Jesus from telling him the truth, though it was tough. The blind man in our second text above began to see men like trees after Jesus touched him at first, but after his second touch he began to see more clearly. If you see men like trees, you will treat them like trees. Until you can see every one the way God sees them, i.e., bearing His image and likeness, you are not seeing clearly. Today, you shall receive a second touch from Jesus that will cause you to see others the way that He sees them.
PRAYER: Heavenly Father, help me to see men the way that You see them so I can love them the way You want them to be loved.
