ABOVE ONLY DAILY DEVOTIONAL
Wednesday 13th March, 2019.
Following Jesus’ Example during Trials and Test.
Hebrews 12:2b-5 (NLT) Because of the joy awaiting him, he endured the cross, disregarding its shame…. Think of all the hospitality he endured from sinful people; then you won’t become weary and give up.
Afterall, you have not yet given your lives in your struggle against sin. Have you forgotten the encouraging words God spoke to you as his children? He said, “my child, don’t make light of the Lord’s disciple, and don’t give up when he corrects you.”
In our journey of faith, we must always look unto Jesus to receive grace from Him and to follow His example of enduring and overcoming tests and trials. Jesus was a man like you and He endured a lot of suffering, pain, tests and trials also. It was not easy for Him. He was tempted in every way but He did not give in to sin. Jesus perfectly understands and went through what you are going through right now. As you believe and trust in Him, He will grant you that same grace and wisdom by which He overcame too, Hebrews 4:14-16.
A lot of tests and trials will come through people. Sometimes it will be from people you never expected. Sometimes, you will suffer for doing right. Jesus left us a perfect example of this. 1 Peter 2:20-21 (GNB) says, “for what credit is there if you endure the beatings you deserve for having done wrong? But if you endure suffering even when you have done right, God will bless you for it. It was to this that God called you, for Christ himself suffered for you and left you an example, so that you would follow in his steps.” Just like Jesus did, don’t try to react or retaliate. Just commit yourself to God who is a righteous Judge, 1 Peter 2:23. See your tests and trials as disciple or chastisement from God. See it as a training process aimed at making you more like Christ. The major way God Chastises us is by His Word. So, as you go through trials and tests listen to God’s voice and follow His leading. This is what makes what you are going through to develop the nature and character of Christ in you.
Prayer:
Dear Lord, I receive your grace to follow Jesus’ example to endure my trials and tests. Teach and guide me with your wisdom.
Bible in one year reading plan: Deuteronomy 19-21, Mark 13:21-37.
