*Exercise the Nature of God in you*
2 Peter 1:5-8 (NLT) In view of all this, make every effort to respond to God’s promises. Supplement your faith with a generous provision of moral excellence, and moral excellence with knowledge, and knowledge with self-control, and self-control with patient endurance, and patient endurance with godliness, and godliness with brotherly affection, and brotherly affection with love for everyone.
The more you grow like this, the more productive and useful you will be in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.
After we fully realize that we have the fullness of God’s character and nature like we studied yesterday, the next thing that we have to do is to grow in God’s character and nature. Until we grow, we will not be able to express this fullness of God’s character that we have in us. A new born baby has all the features of a grown man or woman, but that baby cannot function like a mature man or woman because the child still needs to grow. If the baby continues crying that he or she cannot function like an adult that baby will never grow but if the baby keeps doing everything necessary for its growth, the baby will continue to grow and will one day become an adult too. You have various dimensions of God’s character but they are in seed form in your spirit. For their fruit to manifest you have to allow them to grow. You have to grow in your consciousness of those things and you have to exercise those abilities that you have in you. Like our text above says, God wants you to grow in your faith, moral excellence or virtue, knowledge, self-control, patience, godliness, brotherly affection and love.
These things will grow in your life as you start manifesting them. The Bible says he that is faithful with little shall be given more. When you value and make good use of what you have you will experience increase and promotion. If you refuse to manifest the little ability you have for these things you will lose out like the man who hid his talent, Luke 19:20-24. God will never ask you to do something that He has not empowered you to do in Christ. Patience is very necessary for growth. This is why even when we fall, God shows us mercy and He keeps working out His life and nature in us and He allows us to receive His mercy and find His grace to not fall again, Heb. 4:16. You must be patient with yourself.
Faith Declaration:
As I use my faith, moral excellence, knowledge, self-control, love and all of God’s nature that I have, they are growing in me.
Bible in one year reading plan: Leviticus 13, Matthew 26:26-50.
