Jesus: the Lamb of God

Jesus: the Lamb of God

FRIDAY
APR. 14

 John 1:29b, Isaiah 53:10-11 (GNB)
… Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world. *… "It was my will that he should suffer his death was a sacrifice to bring forgiveness. And so he will see his descendants; he will live a long life, and through him my purpose will succeed. After a life of suffering, he will again have joy; he will know that he did not suffer in vain. My devoted servant, with whom I am pleased, will bear the punishment of many and for his sake I will forgive them.

One of the things that God provided for the Israelites, via his commandments to Moses, was the privilege of having their sins remitted through the sacrifice of a lamb, Leviticus 4:32- 33. But in many ways, this was not a perfect sacrifice because it had to be offered annually. The Bible also makes it clear that this sacrifice could not take away their sins and could not make them perfect, Heb.10:1-4. It was simply a foreshadowing of the perfect sacrifice to come in the form of Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ is the Lamb of God that takes away the sins of not just the Israelites for a season, but of the world forever! In the Good News Bible, Hebrews 10:10 says, “because Jesus Christ did what God wanted him to do, we are all purified from sin by the offering that he made of his own body once and for all.”

Even the great things that resulted from the Israelites' slaying of the Passover lamb for their deliverance from Egypt in Exodus 12:1-14 amounted to just a foreshadowing of that which is to happen for us because of the finished work of Christ the Lamb of God. Because of God's unrelenting love for you, He sent Jesus to not only come as a man but to also suffer and die as a sacrifice for you to be redeemed from sin and bondage. As we celebrate the death of Christ today, rejoice in God's boundless love for you and in the fact that you are perpetually free from sin and the bondage of the devil. Rejoice because both the punishment and the power of sin have been taken away from your life forever.

PRAYER FOCUS:
Thank God right now for loving you and sending Jesus to pay the price for you to be perpetually free from sin and all bondage.
