Praying Through the Psalms Day 188
Psalm 20:1
In times of trouble, may the LORD answer your cry.
May the name of the God of Jacob keep you safe from all harm.
In times of trouble, may the LORD answer your cry.
May the name of the God of Jacob keep you safe from all harm.
Truth of the Day
Sometimes, all I need is the name of God to protect me from evil.
Sometimes, all I need is the name of God to protect me from evil.
Personalizing This Truth
We all face those daily challenges that either our circumstances threaten to drag us down or our own pride dictates that we make a selfish choice. How easily we succumb to those temptations often times depends on where we are in our relationship with God at that moment. In those times where we have let our relationship with God take a back seat to other things, we often find it harder to do the right thing, react the right way, or treat people the way that God wants us to treat them.
However, one of the great things about God is that when we call on His name, He instantly gives us the grace to do the right thing. He doesn’t go through a long, arduous process of rebuilding our relationship, or demand that we take certain steps in order to win back His favor before He offers His grace. Instead, in the moment of crisis or decision, if we just swallow our pride and call out to Him, He pours His grace over us giving us the strength to make the right choice. Now it is only up to us to accept that grace.
Prayer
Father God, today instead of choosing to follow what my own pride and ego dictates, I choose to fully accept Your grace so that it not only surrounds me, but penetrates me allowing me to make choices of life and treatment of others the way that You would want me to. Today, I choose to call on Your name instead of rely on my own desires.
