Praying Through the Psalms Day 191
Psalm 20:4
May he grant your heart’s desires
and make all your plans succeed.
May he grant your heart’s desires
and make all your plans succeed.
Truth of the Day
When my plans align with God’s plans, I will always succeed.
When my plans align with God’s plans, I will always succeed.
Personalizing This Truth
One of the most often misunderstood promises of God is that if we follow Him, we will get everything we want (the desires of our heart) and we will always be successful. However, reality definitely shows us this is not always the fact. Some would even be so bold as to say we aren’t succeeding or receiving our desires because we either do not have enough faith or there is some sin in our life that is keeping us from succeeding.
However, the real truth in these promises does not come in the emphasis of success or receiving, it comes from where our heart truly is and what it is we want to succeed in. If our relationship with God is such that we have a pretty good grasp on His heart and His desires, then our heart’s desires will match up with His. Therefore, we will receive the desires of our heart. If our plans align with God’s plans for us then we know in confidence that we are on the path to success the way God looks at success in that particular area.
Prayer
Father God, today I am not asking for the things that I want or even think I need. I am asking that my heart and my desires align with Your desires for me. In those areas where what I want is different than what You want, Lord, I pray that I am able to put away my own pride and ego so that I can clearly see and desire what you have in Your heart. As for my plans, I know that it is good for me to plan. However, I know that my plans need to fall in line with Your plans or they will never succeed. Lord, begin to work in me in such a way that I learn to joyfully exchange my plans, born from my own pride, for the plans that You have for me.
