Praying Through the Psalms Day 197
Psalm 21:1
Psalm 21:1
How the king rejoices in your strength, O LORD!
He shouts with joy, because you give him victory.
He shouts with joy, because you give him victory.
Truth of the Day
When God gives victory, I need to celebrate
When God gives victory, I need to celebrate
Personalizing This Truth
One of the problems that exists among many Christians is that we fail to truly celebrate and give thanks for times that God has come through for us, healed us, relieved our stress, provide for us, etc. At best (and quite often we even fail here), we mutter a quick one time prayer with as few words as possible to say thank you.
However, God would rather us follow the example of David who says in Psalm 21 that the king rejoices and shouts for joy when God does something special. Rejoice and shout. Now those are two words that I bet most of us don’t do enough of when it comes to thanking God. It’s not that we don’t know how to rejoice and shout. We do that at ball games all the time. Some of us even give a rendition of rejoicing and shouting during the time of singing at church. And we think that makes us spiritual and close to God. After all, we are shouting and rejoicing just like He said to do. But then in the solitude of our own home or car when God answers a prayer, we, at best, utter a few words, then go about our daily work or commute. Is that truly rejoicing? Do I truly rejoice when God does something for me? Do you?
Prayer
Father God, today I am going to seek and find at least three things that You have done for me recently that is worthy of my gratitude. Today, I wan to spend more time focusing on just what You have done and how grateful I am that You stepped into my world to do these things. Lord, today, when I am in an unobtrusive place, I will let out a shout of gratitude because I know that as my words and actions go, my true attitude will soon follow.
