Praying Through the Psalms Day 195
Psalm 20:8
Those nations will fall down and collapse,
But we will rise up and stand strong
Those nations will fall down and collapse,
But we will rise up and stand strong
Truth of the Day
To reach my potential, I must focus on what God has done and not anything that I have done.
To reach my potential, I must focus on what God has done and not anything that I have done.
Personalizing This Truth
Life always seems to be about reaching my potential. There are countless volumes of books, seminars, trainings, etc. about how to reach our potential in virtually any area of life. But they always seem to fall into the self-help area or dictate ways of promoting ourselves. People actually buy courses on how to prepare a resume that makes them look so good that potential employers can’t help but take notice.
However, even though many of those things are good things, that is not the way it works in God’s economy. Perhaps in the business world there is room for self-promotion to reach my potential, but when it comes to reaching it in any area (including professional accomplishments), I should never boast in what I have done because that will lead to my collapse. Only when I boast in what God has done will I stand strong.
Unlike what so many try to do, this attitude that leads to success is not merely giving God lip service and saying that I owe it all to Him. Anyone can say those words and not truly mean it. It goes into a deep heart felt attitude that not only do I recognize this truth inside of myself, but I do not say or do anything that at all brings recognition to me.
Prayer
Father God, I know that when I either inwardly or outwardly take any credit for the things You have blessed me with or if I even slightly feel that I deserve what You have given, I will never reach the potential You have for me. I realize that my potential in Your eyes can only be reached when I allow You to do all the work and recognize to both myself and to others that it is all about You and not at all about me.
