Praying Through the Psalms Day 196
Psalm 20:9
Give victory to our king, O LORD!
Answer our cry for help.
Give victory to our king, O LORD!
Answer our cry for help.
Truth of the Day
When I cry out for help, God will give me victory
When I cry out for help, God will give me victory
Personalizing This Truth
In today’s society, we are often encouraged to show no weakness, to never ask for help, and to basically tough it out, figure it out, and to come out shining in victory.
But that doesn’t seem to be the way most of life works. We get hurt. Bad things do happen. We all go through storms of life. Sometimes we try to ignore the pain and often we try to mask our frustration and pretend that everything is really okay. And no one ever sees inside us to even begin to grasp the pain and frustrationIn today’s society, we are often encouraged to show no weakness, to never ask for help, and to basically tough it out, figure it out, and to come out shining in victory.
However, that pain and frustration that we all feel from time to time doesn’t have to stay buried inside us. When we cry out to God for help, He always gives us victory over the circumstances that are bringing us down. That victory might not be immediate and it often looks differently than we had hoped it would. But God always does give us victory.
Prayer
Father God, as those times of pain and frustration sometimes grapple with my outlook on life, my feelings, and sometimes even my physical body, I know that I cannot try to pull myself up by my own boot straps and that trying to hide or ignore the pain will never help me change the circumstances that have brought me down or caused me fear.

Sadly, Lord, it seems that I wait till I come to the end of my rope before crying out to You. I so often come to You only after I have exhausted everything else and every other way of finding healing or success. However, those time when I do cry out to You, You have always heard my cry and You have always, without fail, given me victory. Sometimes that victory did not come until after a loss and sometimes that victory came in a different form than what I had hoped and planned. But You have not always given victory, but in the long run, Your victory is always greater than the one I would have chosen – even if it doesn’t always seem that way
