Asking in Faith
James 1:5-8 (NKJV) But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for he who doubts is like a wave of the sea driven and tossed by the wind. For let not that man suppose that he will receive anything from the Lord; he is a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways.
Hebrews 6:11 says, but without faith it is impossible to please God. Faith is the assurance we have, knowing that all things are possible with God through Christ Jesus. God does not want us to be doubtful when we come to Him in prayer because when we doubt, we cannot truly receive anything from Him. Our text says, but let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for he who doubts is like a wave of the sea driven and tossed by the wind, for let not that man suppose that he will receive anything from the Lord.
To doubt God in prayer is to question His love, His word and His power, all of whom is Christ Jesus. Christ is the Love, the Word and the Power of God. When our faith is hinged on Christ and His finished work, we truly have nothing to be afraid or doubtful of because we can be assured that the answers we receive in prayer are not by our own works but simply because of Christ Jesus.
Doubt is a reflection of self-work and our lack of trust in God's power. It results from not feeling righteous enough, not feeling like you have fasted enough or being uncertain about whether or not God can do it. The Bible refers to such a person as one that cannot receive anything from God.
Beloved, do not be doubtful and unstable in your mind concerning the promises of God, because they are plentiful and they are ye and they are amen in Christ Jesus. Instead, choose to rejoice and be confident when next you come to God in prayer because He hears and answers you always.
PRAYER FOCUS: Father, I thank You because You hear me always. I ask that You give me the grace to continue to trust in You at all times.
