Effectual Prayer I
James 5:13-15 (NKJV) Is anyone among you suffering? Let him pray. Is anyone cheerful? Let him sing psalms. Is anyone among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord. And the prayer of faith will save the sick, and the Lord will raise him up.
Are you sick or in pain? Is what you are going through so terribly difficult that you are unable to open up to anyone, not even those closest to you? God is saying to you, pray. Prayer is heartfelt communication between you and God. God wants you to trust him enough with every part of your life. He wants you to cast all your cares on Him because He cares for you (1Peter 5:7).
Prayer is directly involving God in your life and authorizing the forces of heaven to work in your favour. Without prayer, God is limited on the earth. God needs us to pray to enable Him to do in our lives what He has already perfected and promised us. Whatever it is you are facing, I want you to know that it is not impossible for God if you would come to Him in prayers today about that thing.
Our text references another type of prayer: a prayer of agreement. “Is anyone among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him.” There is a time to pray alone and there is a time to call on fellow believers to join in faith in agreement. In Matthew 18:19, we are told that if two shall agree concerning a thing on the earth, it shall be done by God Himself. Never underestimate the power of prayer. Pray today and see God work that miracle in your life.
PRAYER FOCUS: Father, I thank You because You hear me anytime I call on you. I thank You because all my requests are yes and amen in Christ Jesus. Amen
