Effectual Prayer 2
James 3:16-18 NKJV Elijah was a man just like us. He prayed earnestly that it would not rain, and it did not rain on the land for three and a half years. Again he prayed, and the heavens gave rain, and the earth produced its crops.
If only we would behave as little children when reading the word of God. If we would simply take Him at His word and believe, we would see the greatest move of God ever recorded in history. A child believes almost anything. For instance, if you were to promise a two-year old child an airplane or a private jet so he could fly to school every morning, his heart would immediately bubble with joy and excitement, awaiting what you have promised. For a little child, nothing is impossible.
God wants us to receive His word like little children, not because we are ignorant as little children are, but because we know that with God all things are possible. Our text reminds us that Elijah was a man just like us. Yet, he prayed for the impossible to happen, he prayed to interfere with the natural order of things and heaven effected his bidding. Who behaves like that? Only a man that knows his place with God and knows the limitless power of God.
Elijah was a man under the old covenant; he didn't have the Spirit of God indwelling him like we do now. He had the Spirit of God in a measure, because until Jesus came, no man had the Spirit indwelling in them. But we are not like Elijah, we are far greater in rank and position than Elijah could ever be. Elijah was a servant but we are sons. If a servant could pray to God who was not his father and he was heard, such that for three years it didn't rain on the earth, imagine what we as children of God who have been bought by the precious blood of Jesus can do and command when we pray. Heaven and earth are at the tip of your fingers. You have authority with God. Pray today!
PRAYER FOCUS: Father, I thank You because You hear me always and nothing is impossible with You.
