Looking Unto Jesus
Hebrews 12:2-3 (NKJV) Looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.
Our Lord Jesus is the perfect example through whom God expects us to model our lives after. He is the Author and Finisher of our faith. Jesus had a goal in mind while on the earth: His task was to save mankind by the most shameful death possible, i.e., death by hanging on the cross. Jesus endured the shame and pain of death on the cross by keeping in view the joy set before Him.
Child of God, you and I were the joy set before Christ. It was the joy of being able to call us 'brethren' and 'joint heirs' that kept Him hanging on the cross. Now, He is seated at the right hand of God, receiving many to glory. Similarly, God expects us to do likewise, i.e., to endure the pain and rigor of this world, knowing that one day we will sit with Him in glory. However, He does not leave us on our own.
Christ is the Author and Finisher of our faith. This means that every good work that He has started in our lives will be brought to pass. God will not start a thing with us and leave it unfinished. Even as Christ fulfilled His purpose on the earth and is now seated in glory, you too will complete your purpose on the earth and be glorified one day by God in Jesus' name. Amen.
PRAYER FOCUS: Father, I thank You because You have begun a good thing in my life and you shall finish it in Jesus' name. Amen.
