Modelled After Christ
James 3:16-18 NKJV
For where envy and self-seeking exist, confusion and every evil thing are there. But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, willing to yield, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality and without hypocrisy. Now the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace by those who make peace.
 Our Lord Christ Jesus is the model example of a true believer because as it is written, as He is, so are we in this world, (1 John 4:17). Jesus Christ our Lord is referred to as the Prince of Peace. 1 Peter 2:22-24 describes Him further as the One who committed no sin, nor was deceit found in His mouth, who, when He was reviled, did not revile in return; when He suffered, He did not threaten, but committed Himself to Him who judges righteously. This is the life of the believer in Christ.
Our text above reminds us that where envy and self-seeking exist, confusion and every evil thing are there. This is because God did not create the believer to function in envy, self-seeking and strife. Any believer who continues in envy and strife is malfunctioning, he is not functioning according to his design which is Christ Jesus.
Our text goes further to explain that the wisdom of God is pure, gentle, full of mercy and good fruits. In one word, the wisdom of God is Christ. If Christ is indeed the wisdom of God and Christ dwells in us, then we have the capacity and God nature to live above envy, strife and self-seeking. We have the capacity to be merciful as Christ is.
PRAYER FOCUS: Heavenly father, I thank You because I am just like Christ. As He is, so are we in this world. I have what it takes to be merciful. Grant me the grace to be merciful at all times. Amen.
