Divine Assistance by the Holy Spirit
John 14:16-17 (MSG), John 16:13-14 (MSG) I will talk to the Father, and he'll provide you another Friend so that you will always have someone with you. This Friend is the Spirit of Truth. The godless world can't take him in because it doesn't have eyes to see him, ... But you know him already because he has been staying with you, and will even be in you! *But when the Friend comes, … he will take you by the hand and guide you into all the truth there is. … he will take from me and deliver it to you.
The reason why Jesus used the phrase “another Friend” in our text above or “another Comforter” (as used in some other versions) is because He was a Friend and Comforter to His disciples. He informed them that although He was going away, He would be sending someone else who was just like Him; not to just live with them but to actually live in them. How would you react to that challenge or situation if Jesus, in all His power and glory, was physically standing beside you right now? Child of God, Jesus lives in you by the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit that is in you is not in any way inferior to the Jesus that lived and walked on this earth with the disciples. So just as the disciples felt comforted and enjoyed tremendous assistance from Jesus in various areas of their lives, the Holy Spirit is also available and willing to give you divine assistance in every area of your life. Keep increasing in your consciousness of His presence.
In the Amplified Bible, the word Comforter, used to describe the Holy Spirit, is expanded as counselor, helper, intercessor, advocate, strengthener and standby. Whenever you feel like you need any of these things in your life, know that you have the Holy Spirit and that He is ready to teach you all things (1John 2:27) and empower you (Acts 1:8) in every way. In the Living Bible, Romans 8:26 says,“And in the same way — by our faith— the Holy Spirit helps us with our daily problems and in our praying.” Like a great partner, He will join hands with you against whatever challenge you may encounter.
PRAYER: I thank You for Your presence in me, dear Holy Spirit. Right now, I receive your divine assistance in every area of my life.
