The Great Joy of the Gospel of Christ
John 15:11, Luke 2:10-11, Acts 8:5 & 8 These things have I spoken unto you, that my joy might remain in you, and that your joy might be full. *And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord. *Then Philip went down to the city of Samaria, and preached Christ unto them. *And there was great joy in that city.
One major purpose that the revelation and gospel of Christ achieves in our lives is to give us joy. When you really understand who Christ is, how much God loves you and all the wonderful things God has done for you in Christ, your life will be filled with joy. The Angel that came to announce the birth of Jesus to the shepherds noted that he was bringing them good news of great joy which shall be to all people. The good news of Christ is a guarantee of great joy to each and every one who will believe and receive it. Our last text above reveals that great joy filled Samaria because Philip preached Christ to them.
As you receive this message right now and continue to fill your heart with the revelation and good news of Christ, great joy will continue to flood your heart. In our first text above, Jesus explained the reason behind what He told His disciples so that 'His joy' might remain in them and 'their joy may be full'. How joyful do you think Jesus is as a person? Also, how different would your life be if your joy were full? These two things are what you are to receive every time the word of God is comes to you. They are my desire for you as you study this devotional every day. I pray that you will increase your value of and focus on the word of God. In Job 23:12, Job said he esteemed the word of God more than his necessary food. Similarly, Psalms 119:162 says, I rejoice at thy word, as one that findeth great spoil (or goods). I pray for fresh revelation and joy of the Holy Spirit as you study and receive the word of God.
PRAYER: Heavenly Father, as I receive Your Word, please fill my heart with fresh revelation of Your love and joy by Your Spirit.
