*The Great Rank of the Name of Jesus*
Philippians 2:8-11 And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.
Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name: That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven and things in earth, and things under the earth; And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
Romans 14:9 (NLT) Christ died and rose again for this very purpose – to be Lord both of the living and of the dead.
It is a very great error to ever attempt to compare the power and authority of Jesus to that of any other person, other power, being or force in the entire universe. To start with, all things were made by Him, (John 1:3 & Heb. 1:2). We must also be conscious of all that happened as a result of Jesus’ death on the Cross and His burial and resurrection for us (His redemptive work). By His redemptive work, Jesus spoiled principalities and powers, he made an open show of them and He triumphed over them, Col. 2:15. He destroyed the power the devil had over you (Heb. 2:14) and God the Father highly exalted Him. In Revelation 1:18 Jesus said “I am he that liveth, and was dead; and, behold, I am alive for evermore, Amen; and have the keys of hell and of death”. All power belongs to Him, Matt. 28:19. He is the Lord of lords and the King of kings, Rev. 17:14. Jesus is not just above the devil and all his demons, He is far above them, Eph. 1:19-21.
It is sad that some believers are more conscious of the rank of the devil and his demons than they are of the rank and authority of Jesus. There are many people who are called by the Greek name ‘Jesus’, but we are talking about the Jesus that was crucified and rose up again from the dead, 1 Cor. 2:2. Jesus the Christ. It is Him that we preach and have put our faith in. He is different and stands out in rank from them all. The Bible does not say at the ‘mention’ of the Name of Jesus every knee should bow. The Bible says at the name of Jesus. The word ‘at’ refers to a rank. At the Name of Jesus means ‘in the authority of Jesus.’ Our consciousness of the rank of the Name of Jesus will affect our faith in Him, our worship of Him and our representing Him.
Prayer Focus:
I honour and worship you Lord Jesus for your Name is higher than every other Name. You are King of kings and Lord of lords indeed.
Bible in one year reading plan: Deuteronomy 13-15, Mark 12:28-44.
