Knowing and Receiving the Authority You Have
Acts 3:2-8 (CEV) A man who had been born lame was being carried to the temple door. … the man saw Peter and John entering the temple, and he asked them for money. But they looked straight at him and said, “Look up at us!” … Peter said, “I don’t have any silver or gold! But I will give you what I do have. In the name of Jesus Christ from Nazareth, get up and start walking.” Peter then took him by the right hand and helped him up. At once the man’s feet and ankles became strong, and he jumped up and started walking…
How will you feel if you give someone a very precious and expensive gift that you know they really need, but because of their ignorance of what you have given them they refuse to make use of it? I am sure that if you love the person you will want to do everything possible to let them know exactly what it is that you have given them and how best they can make use of it. I believe that this is exactly how Jesus feels about the great gift of His Name (authority) that He has given us. In Matthew 28:18-19a (LB), Jesus said, “… I have been given all authority in heaven and earth. Therefore go … I am with you always”. The Name/ Authority of Jesus carries the full essence and presence of Jesus. In Matthew 18:20, Jesus said, “… where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them.”
It is one thing for you to be given something and it is another thing for you to receive it. The word for receive in most parts of the Bible is ‘Lambano’: forceful taking possession. God wants you to forcefully seize and take possession of the Name/ Authority of Jesus that has been given to you. The Name/ Authority of Jesus is one of the greatest inheritance that you have. The Name/ Authority of Jesus that you have is the same as that which your pastor has. By the Name/ Authority of Jesus that you have, you will never be intimidated by any situation in your life; because you will know that you can change or reverse that situation just like Jesus can. God wants your consciousness of the authority of Jesus that you have to reflect in every single area of your life. Colossians 3:17 says, “And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him”.
Prayer:
I thank You Heavenly Father for the mighty Name and Authority of Jesus that has been given to me. I take full and forceful possession of it.
