*TEXT:* PSALM 17:1-15.
_*🔑KEY VERSE* "Arise, O LORD, disappoint him, cast him down: deliver my soul from the wicked, which is thy sword" (PSALM 17:13)._
When the Roman Empire was being sacked by the hordes of godless barbarians that invaded the territory in the 5th century, Leo, the praying Bishop of Rome, approached Attila the Hun, leader of the occupying armies, to plead for the Church and the city. He made a passionate plea that Rome be spared from the savagery and the destruction that had attended the attacks of the soldiers. Leo warned Attila not to risk the vengeance of heaven by plundering Rome and the Church. He listened to the churchman's desperate prayer and withdrew his men.
More than one thousand five hundred years earlier, David, the future King of Israel, had also found himself in a tight corner that threatened his existence in the same way the Church and the city of Rome were about to be brought to their knees. He and his men were being hounded by King Saul.
As no help was in sight and with Saul seeming to close in on him and his men, David turned to heaven for help. He spoke of coming face to face with death. It was not all despair, however, as he also talked of the mercy and power of a great God who saves those who sincerely call on Him in times of danger. The Lord did not disappoint the young man who discovered his own military prowess and called for divine intervention when he was at his wits' end. David had the last laugh as the Lord gave him the final victory and confounded Saul.
Man is also ensnared by problems he has brought on himself through the pursuit of false philosophy and rebellious religion all of which have alienated him from God and the truth. He cannot get relief or redemption in any earth-bound solution. Only a renunciation of the world's play and a plea to God for help can deliver him.
*✍THOUGHT FOR THE DAY* Man without God is helpless in the face of satanic challenges.
*COVER TO COVER* NUMBERS 1-2.
*MEDITATION*
How to outsmart the adversary
*1. The uncouth adversary*
The challenges posed by the deadly adversaries of the psalmist were overwhelming. Check vv9-13 to see their description.
*Observe* that your challenges may not be as life threatening.
*2. Uncommon answer to the tactics of the adversaries*
In response to his challenges, he exhibited some uncommon decisions and commitments which eventually was his victory booster. Check carefully vv5,6,15.
*Q* Do you have this kind of decisions?
V15 showed his main source of satisfaction: his hope of resurrection from the dead.
*Hunger for more of God in the midst of turbulence is an uncommon sure victory to every battle*
*Lord*, strengthen my resolve to follow you at all cost🙏
*Let* no tears be able to blind my eyes from the hope of heaven 🙏
*Ask* for more hunger and thirst after God🙏
*Ask* for uncommon grace, for all brethren, that will not allow challenges to replace concentration and devotion to God🙏

*HYMN* Fill my cup Lord
1.
Like the woman at the well, I was seeking
For things that could not satisfy.
And then I heard my Savior speaking—
“Draw from My well that never shall run dry.”
Fill my cup, Lord;
I lift it up Lord;
Come and quench this thirsting of my soul.
Bread of Heaven, feed me till I want no more.
Fill my cup, fill it up and make me whole.
2
There are millions in this world who are seeking
For pleasures earthly goods afford.
But none can match the wondrous treasure
That I find in Jesus Christ my Lord.
3
So my brother if the things that this world gives you
Leave hungers that won’t pass away,
My blessed Lord will come and save you
If you kneel to Him and humbly pray—
Like the woman at the well, I was seeking
For things that could not satisfy.
And then I heard my Savior speaking—
“Draw from My well that never shall run dry.”
Fill my cup, Lord;
I lift it up Lord;
Come and quench this thirsting of my soul.
Bread of Heaven, feed me till I want no more.
Fill my cup, fill it up and make me whole.
