DAILY MANNA DEVOTIONAL
THURSDAY, JANUARY 18, 2018
COMPLETE OBEDIENCE
TEXT: EXODUS 24: 1-11
KEY VERSE: "And Moses came and told the people all the words of the LORD, and all the judgements: and all the people answered with one voice, and said, All the words which the LORD hath said will we do" (Exodus 24:3)
One major undoing of King Saul of Israel was his partial obedience to God's word. He received divine commission through Prophet Samuel to utterly destroy the Amalekites - sparing no man or animal. He complied but not completely. He spared Agag their king and the best of their animals. By this act, he earned God's judgement and condemnation.

The resolve of the Israelites, from the passage, contrasts sharply with the action of Saul. Here, Moses who had been away on Mount Sinai got back to the people and acquainted them with all the commandments, laws and ordinances from God; and "...and all the people answered with one voice and said, all the words which the LORD hath said will we do". Moses thereupon put the laws in writing, read it out to the people and ratified the covenant by sacrifices. The congregation of Israel reiterated their commitment to obey God. The people's attitude is quite instructive.
The implication of their resolve is that everyone of them without exception was prepared to comply with the word of God. Moses had set God's terms so clearly before them so that they would take informed decision.
As we are previleged to have the whole counsel of God and to be inheritors of the covenant of grace, we should be more committed to obeying every word that proceeds out of the mouth of God. When you choose what to obey from the Scriptures, you become like King Saul and earn God's disfavour. "...To obey is better than sacrifice, and to hearken than the fat of rams" (1 Samuel 15:22)
THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: Partial obedience to God's word kindles His wrath.
COVER TO COVER: GENESIS 19 - 21.
PONDER:
1. What made Israel to consecrate to obey God 100% (v7)? And What made them to renege in their promise later?
2. The revelation of the glory, the greatness and the grandeur of God made it foolish for them not to totally surrender.
3. That means the degree of the revelation of God we have determines the position we put Him in our lives.
4. They later renege in the consecration because they lost the revelation of God as they were distracted from setting God before their face.
5. Moses revealed the secret of his close fellowship with God: early rising (v4) .
6. The animal sacrifice in OT only guarantees worshipping God "afar off" (v1) while blood of Jesus guarantees access to God and removes all limitations.
7. God is a Spirit. Yet He has body. He has legs (v10) , hands (v11), mouth (v12) and is visible to those whose eyes are opened to see Him, though not in His full glory.
8. Can you think how glorious the nation Israel will be if they were faithful to their promise to keep ALL the words of God? How about you?
HYMN: Holy Holy Holy
1 Holy, Holy, Holy! Lord God Almighty!
Early in the morning our song shall rise to Thee.
Holy, Holy, Holy! Merciful and mighty!
God in three persons, blessed Trinity!
2 Holy, Holy, Holy! All the saints adore Thee,
casting down their golden crowns around the glassy sea;
cherubim and seraphim falling down before Thee,
which wert and art and evermore shalt be.
3 Holy, Holy, Holy! though the darkness hide Thee,
though the eye made blind by sin Thy glory may not see,
only Thou art holy; there is none beside Thee,
perfect in pow'r, in love, and purity.
4 Holy, Holy, Holy! Lord God Almighty!
All Thy works shall praise Thy name in earth and sky and sea.
Holy, Holy, Holy! Merciful and mighty!
God in three persons, blessed Trinity.
PRAYER POINTS:
1. Lord, show me more of your glory continually so that my fear of you will be increasing.
2. Keep my eyes ever focused on your glory and let nothing or nobody be able to make me diminish my obedience to all your word.
3. I reject the spirit that takes God for granted in my life.
4. We want to be seeing more of you every time we meet for fellowship in the Church.
