1 John 4:20, 12-13 (NIV)
If anyone says, "I love God," yet hates his brother, he is a liar. For anyone who does not love his brother, whom he has seen, cannot love God, whom he has not seen. *No one has ever seen God; but if we love one another, God lives in us and his love is made complete in us. We know that we live in him and he in us, because he has given us of his Spirit.

One of the things Apostle Paul often commended believers for was their love for one another, Col.1:4. Most times, He would say that he had heard about their love for the saints. Their love for each other was so strong that it produced multiple testimonies that reached Apostle Paul. That is the kind of love for one another that God wants to exist amongst us today. Our text above warns us that we cannot say we love God when we do not love one another. Genuine love for one another is one of the major fruits of our love for God.
Our love for one another is a major sign that we have eternal life, 1John 3:14. In 1John 4:16b, the Bible reveals that God is love and that he that dwells in love dwells in God and God in Him. When you walk in love, you walk in God's realm. You reflect His glory and nature. Walking in love causes God to manifest Himself in your life and through your life in amazing ways. No wonder Jesus said that it is by loving one another that people will know that we are His disciples, John 13:35. Walking in love produces signs and wonders that attract people to Jesus. No wonder Jesus also prayed for us to be one, just as He and the Father are one, John 17:20-22.
In the New King James Version, Proverbs 10:12 says, “Hatred stirs up strife, but love covers all sins.” Love urges you to serve, show mercy and commit yourself to the good of others, just like God does for us. I pray for you that your love for God will produce greater love for others in your life.
PRAYER FOCUS: Receive God's grace to love Him more and to reflect more of His love unto others around you.
