TUTORIALS FROM THE LORD
TEXT: LUKE 5:12-16
Key Verse: “And he withdrew himself into the wilderness, and prayed” (Luke 5:16)_
Today’s Scripture reveals yet one more aspect of the supernatural nature of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Master Healer, who taught valuable lessons about how a servant of God should comport himself. None is more qualified to impart instructions about the dynamics of the kingdom of heaven than the Lord Himself.

After the miraculous catch of fishes, the Lord announced His agenda to the convert Peter. When the scene changed, the compassion of the Lord did not change. When He met the leper, the Bible says: “And he put forth his hand, and touched him, saying, I will: Be thou clean. And immediately the leprosy departed from him” (verse 13).
The Lord’s instruction to the delivered leper connotes two lessons. First, He wanted the Jews to know that He was not a religious fanatic who sought attention for His deeds of miracles. He did not seek to impress the people as the sorcerers of His day did. Second, in directing the healed leper to the synagogue to see the priest, “according as Moses commanded”, he was affirming His stand that He did not come to break the law as falsely alleged by the scribes, Pharisees and Sadducees.
Following more healing and teaching, Luke records that the Lord “withdrew himself into the wilderness, and prayed” (verse 16). Here, Jesus offers more lessons. Ministers of God should be self-effacing. When God has used them to work, they should not hibernate. This contrasts with the spirit of modern time ministers whose ostentatious lifestyle separates them from the flock. Today’s ministers must not dwell on the success of the moment. Instead, they should pray for more spiritual and physical strength for greater exploits for the Lord.
THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: Being like the Lord means losing oneself in His work.
COVER to COVER: JOSHUA 5-8.
PONDER:
1. A leprous man in NT was a depressed, lonely, hopelessly helpless and isolated person. Yet He was not sure of the willingness of Jesus to heal v12.
2. Jesus affirmed His willingness to cure v13.
3. He touched the contagious body with compassion as a proof of His willingness v13.
4. Is Jesus *willing*to give a miracle of compassion to those who need it?
5. Since He is immutable, He is always willing to give a touch of miracle to those who ask Him.
6. You are praying what He wants you to pray for anytime you are praying for a miracle of compassion I John 5:14.
HYMN: Did you think to pray
1. Ere you left your room this morning,
Did you think to pray?
In the name of Christ our Savior,
Did you sue for loving favor,
As a shield today?
Chorus:
Oh, how praying rests the weary!
Prayer will change the night to day;
So in sorrow and in gladness,
Don’t forget to pray.
2 When you met with great temptation,
Did you think to pray?
By His dying love and merit,
Did you claim the Holy Spirit
As your guide and stay? (Chorus)
3 When your heart was filled with anger,
Did you think to pray?
Did you plead for grace, my brother,
That you might forgive another
Who had crossed your way? (Chorus)
4 When sore trials came upon you,
Did you think to pray?
When your soul was bowed in sorrow,
Balm of Gilead did you borrow
At the gates of day? (Chorus)
PRAYER POINTS:
1. Praise Jesus because of His compassion and unfailing power to heal and deliver.
2. In view of the will of Jesus to give a miracle of compassion, ask something definite you need from Him. IJohn 5:14.
3. Pray for anybody you know that needs a miracle of compassion.
4. Ask the Lord to pass through the coming retreat and give miracles of compassion to all.
