*REBELLION OVERTHROWN*
*TEXT:* REVELATION 18:9-20.

_*🔑KEY VERSE* "And the kings of the earth, who have committed fornication and lived deliciously with her, shall bewail her, and lament for her, when they shall see the smoke of her burning" (REVELATION 18:9)._
Babylon depicts rebellion at its peak and any system that opposes God and His righteousness. Right early, after the flood, this evil system, started to manifest when men decided against the will of God, to "make brick, and burn them thoroughly... and build [themselves] a city and a tower whose top may reach to heaven" (Genesis 11:3,4). It took the intervention of God to confound their language and put the evil plot to naught.
The lamentation over the destruction of Babylon in the text is three fold. First, the kings of the earth, then the merchants and the sea men also bemoaned their losses through the destruction of Babylon. But in verse 20, heaven rejoiced for the just judgement of God over her.
In the local parlance, it is said that "every day is for the thief, but one day is for the owner of the house." Evil will not last forever. Satan who came to the Garden of Eden to pollute man and the earth will surely be judged together with all those who have aligned themselves with him and all his lawlessness. There is no part of this planet that the evil influences of Satan will not be found - among the enlightened and the primitive people. Even in the churches, the influences of satanic works are still manifest in worldliness, suspicions, gossips, tribalism and even outright persecution among brethren! All persons who continue to live their lives without repentance and in disobedience to the word of God, like Babylon, will receive His judgement.
The only way to escape the imminent judgement on all those who kick against God in rebellion like Babylon of old, is to come and bow before the Lord in total repentance and absolute surrender. Christ remains the Cornerstone and the only Hope of escape from God's judgement. Embrace Him today and be at peace with God.
*THOUGHT FOR THE DAY* No matter how long it may seem to take, evil will surely fall.
*COVER TO COVER* EZEKIEL 3-5.
*MEDITATION*
Futility of a "great" life without a good end
1. Things people pursue today at the detriment of their souls
a. Merchandise vv11,12,15
b. Mammon vv12,19.
c. Material things vv13,16.
d. Merriment v14.
e. Reflect on other things you are pursing in life?
*Lord* give me the wisdom that will always think of eternity in all my present choices🙏.
*Pray* that every foolishness that always think of present pleasures without eternal considerations should be removed from you🙏
2. The end is better than the beginning
a. Check the wailing and the crying that ended a great time of wealth and enjoyment in the text.
b. What does it profit to gain the whole world and loose the soul forever in hell?
What is the benefit of a great life and damnable life in eternity?
The eternal end must always dictate the choice of the present actions.
*Pray* for wisdom for those within the church whose interest is only what they will make on earth.🙏
*Pray* for the preachers and ministers of the gospel that they will be heavenly minded🙏.
*HYMN* Nothing Between
1
Nothing between, Lord, nothing between;
Let me Thy glory see,
Draw my soul close to Thee,
Then speak in love to me—Nothing between.
2
Nothing between, Lord, nothing between;
Let not earth’s din and noise
Stifle Thy still small voice;
In it let me rejoice—Nothing between.
3
Nothing between, Lord, nothing between;
Nothing of earthly care,
Nothing of tear or prayer,
No robe that self may wear—Nothing between.
4
Nothing between, Lord, nothing between;
Unbelief disappear,
Vanish each doubt and fear,
Fading when Thou art near—Nothing between.
5
Nothing between, Lord, nothing between;
Shine with unclouded ray,
Chasing each mist away,
O’er my whole heart bear sway—Nothing between.
6
Nothing between, Lord, nothing between;
Thus may I walk with Thee,
Thee only may I see,
Thine only let me be—Nothing between.
7
Nothing between, Lord, nothing between;
Till Thine eternal light,
Rising on earth’s dark night,
Bursts on my open sight—Nothing between.
