Don’t Despise Your Service

Don’t Despise Your Service

SUNDAY
AUGUST. 20

Romans 12:4-8 (NIV)
Just as each of us has one body with many members, and these members do not all have the same function, so in Christ we who are many form one body, and each member belongs to all the others. We have different gifts, according to the grace given us. If a man's gift is prophesying, … if it is serving,… if it is teaching, …if it is encouraging, … if it is contributing to the needs of others, … if it is leadership, …; if it is showing mercy, let him do it cheerfully.

Never look down on any task, responsibility or service that you are rendering, especially in the body of Christ. Our text above reveals that although we all have different functions, we remain one. In this passage, prophecy, serving, teaching, exhorting, giving, leading and showing mercy are all listed as gifts of the body of Christ. No one is described as being more important than the other. Just because what you are doing may not look spiritual or important does not mean that it isn’t. Do not allow that to discourage or distract you in any way. God does not see as men see and He does not reward as men reward. God rewards faithfulness and not position. He gives you more grace to be a blessing.

2Kings 3:11 describes Elisha as the one who poured water on Elijah’s hand. Samuel was serving faithfully in the temple of God under Eli before God called him, 1Sam.3:1-4. The major job of the first deacons was to see to the equitable sharing of food, Acts 6:1-3.

Do you know how Aaron became the first high priest of Israel? He didn’t take the honour upon himself, Heb.5:4. He faithfully served as the spokesman (interpreter) for Moses, his younger brother (Exo.4:14-16) and God later gave him the responsibility of being high priest, Exo.28:1. Be like Christ. Serve with all humility and lowliness. Do not do anything out of selfish ambition or vain glory, Phil.2:1-3. God Himself will keep blessing you and using you for exploits.

PRAYER: Heavenly Father, I thank You for the privilege You have given me to serve and be a blessing in Your house. I receive more of Your grace to remain humble, faithful and committed.
