John 17:25-26 (GNB), John 14:9 (GNB) Righteous Father! The world does not know you, but I know you, and these know that you sent me. I made you known to them, and I will continue to do so, in order that the love you have for me may be in them, and so that I also may be in them." *Jesus answered, "For a long time I have been with you all; yet you do not know me, Philip? Whoever has seen me has seen the Father. Why, then, do you say, 'Show us the Father'?
God the Father revealed limited dimensions of Himself to people in the Old Testament. However, to us, He has revealed the fullness of Himself through Christ. In the Good News Bible, Hebrews 1:1-3, says “in the past God spoke to our ancestors many times and in many ways through the prophets, but in these last days he has spoken to us through his Son. He is the one through whom God created the universe, the one whom God has chosen to possess all things at the end. He reflects the brightness of God's glory and is the exact likeness of God's own being, sustaining the universe with his powerful word. After achieving forgiveness for the sins of all human beings, he sat down in heaven at the right side of God, the Supreme Power.”
Jesus is the perfect representation of God the Father. That is why He could confidently assure Philip that whoever has seen Him has seen the Father. Many people know God but they do not know God the Father because they do not know Jesus. They have not really observed the life of Jesus and understood that He actually came to reveal the heart of the Father to us. This is why, in referring to Jesus, God the Father repeatedly said, this is my beloved ‘Son’ with whom I am well pleased, hear Him, Matt.3:17, Matt.17:5.
We no longer have any excuse not to know the Father anymore. All we need do is look at Jesus. Desire to know the Father like Jesus does and desire to also reflect the Father’s heart just like Jesus.
PRAYER : Heavenly Father, as I meditate on the personality of Jesus, please open my eyes to understand and reflect more of You.
