Galatians 5:22-23, Matthew 5:5, Psalm 37:11, Matthew 11:29 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance: against such there is no law. *Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth. *But the meek shall inherit the earth; and shall delight themselves in the abundance of peace. *Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.
Meekness is the nature of God that renders us mild and humble. Some versions of the Bible actually replace the word ‘meekness’ in our first text above with ‘humility.’ Jesus Himself is our perfect example of meekness and humility. Being meek is about sacrificing your ego and reputation to do what God wants you to do in love and service unto others, just like Jesus did for us. It was meekness that caused Jesus to sacrifice all of His glory in Heaven and to willingly come down to this earth to be born, to live, to suffer and to die for us, simply because it was God’s will, Phil.2:3-8. Being meek means choosing to see yourself in a way that allows you to love, to serve others and do God’s will, no matter what it might be. Romans 12:3 says, For I say, through the grace given unto me, to every man that is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think; but to think soberly, according as God hath dealt to every man the measure of faith.
Philippians 2:3 says, “Let nothing be done through strife or vainglory; but in lowliness of mind let each esteem other better than themselves.” The Bible memorializes countless blessings that accompany a posture of meekness and humility. One of the great blessings that God grants to the humble and meek is divine guidance, revelation and direction, Psa.25:9. Meekness will help you receive and apply God’s Word to your life for the salvation of your soul, James 1:21. Our third text above says that the meek will enjoy an abundance of peace. God resists the proud but gives more grace to the humble, James 4:6. 1Peter 3:4 reminds us that a meek and quiet spirit is of a great price (value) before God.
PRAYER FOCUS: Heavenly Father, I thank You for Your nature of meekness that is in me. I receive Your grace to manifest it even more.
