The Advantage of the Holy Spirit

The Advantage of the Holy Spirit

John 16:7-11 (Living Bible)
…it is best for you that I go away, for if I don't, the Comforter won't come. If I do, he will-for I will send him to you. "And when he has come he will convince the world of its sin, and of the availability of God's goodness, and of deliverance from judgment. The world's sin is unbelief in me; there is righteousness available because I go to the Father and you shall see me no more; there is deliverance from judgment because the prince of this world has already been judged.

In our text above, Jesus made it clear that it was in our best interests for Him to go to the Father so that the Holy Spirit, the Comforter, could permanently reside with us. Child of God, we have even more advantage now than the disciples of Jesus had when Jesus was physically present on the earth with them. Jesus now lives and functions in all of us by the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is empowering us to function like Christ and He is forming more of Christ’s life and nature in us. One major assignment of the Holy Spirit is to teach us, convict us of righteousness or bear witness with our spirits. He teaches us all things and reminds us of the things Jesus has taught us, John 14:26.

In our text above, Jesus made it clear that the Holy Spirit convicts the world of their sin in rejecting Jesus Christ as Lord. When they accept Jesus, their hearts will be purified, Acts 15:8-9. For us, God’s children, the Holy Spirit convicts us of the righteousness of God that we are because we believe in Jesus. He also reminds us that the devil has been judged and dealt with by Christ. Whenever Apostle Paul heard of believers misbehaving he would say unto them: “don’t you know that you are one with Christ” (1Cor.6:16-17)? One major reason believers misbehave is because they forget who they are. This is why the Holy Spirit continually reminds us that we are the sons of God (Rom.8:16) and the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus, 2Cor.5:21. He spreads God’s love in our hearts, Rom.5:5.

PRAYER:
Heavenly Father, I ask that by Your Spirit, You will strengthen my conviction that I am Your child and that I am righteous.
