1Timothy 6:1-2 (GNB) Those who are slaves must consider their masters worthy of all respect, so that no one will speak evil of the name of God and of our teaching. Slaves belonging to Christian masters must not despise them, for they are believers too. Instead, they are to serve them even better, because those who benefit from their work are believers whom they love. You must teach and preach these things.
Your vocation or profession is not only a means for you to earn a living. It is also a major outreach tool. So many believers are ignorant of the fact that their attitude towards their work and leaders amounts to a witness that either brings glory or shame to the name of God. It is not only your service in the house of God that amounts to ministry; your service in your place of work may be an even greater ministry and a major channel through which God can reach and touch others through you. As such, you must endeavour to put forth your best behaviour and uphold the highest possible standards in your work, in your school, office or business. Stand out for good and be a light.
Know that as you shine your light right there by your good works, God’s name is being glorified because of you, Matt.5:16. Your impact is opening doors for you to have positive influence on others, even your leaders. Resist the temptation to misbehave and be nonchalant about their services simply because your leaders at work are fellow believers.
That is even more reason for you to work even harder. Love them even more and put in more effort. In fact, you should attach much more seriousness and importance to your job because you are working for a fellow believer. Carry out your contracts and dealings with more passion and excellence. Do not be misguided into believing that you will not be chastised, penalized or disciplined because you are working for a fellow believer. God expects us to maximize every opportunity to do good to all men, especially to fellow believers, Gal.6:10.
PRAYER: Heavenly Father, I receive Your grace to be more faithful and committed to my work and to my leaders.
