Sunday, MARCH 11
Abraham's Radical Faith
Genesis 22:1-2 & 5 (NKJV)
Now it came to pass after these things that God tested Abraham, and said to him, “Abraham!”And he said, “Here I am.” Then He said, “Take now your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you.” *And Abraham said to his young men, “Stay here with the donkey; the lad and I will go yonder and worship, and we will come back to you.”

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
God told Abraham to go and offer up his son, but as we see in our text above, Abraham told his servants that he and his son would come back to them. How was this possible and how could Abraham say such a thing when he knew that he was supposed to kill and burn his son? Abraham did this because he knew that God cannot lie. He knew what God had told him severally about how He (God) would fulfill His promise to Abraham through Isaac (Gen.17:21, Gen.21:12) so Abraham said to himself “if God wants me to offer up Isaac then God is surely going to bring him back to life; because I know that God cannot lie and he is going to keep his promise to me about Isaac my son”.
That is why Abraham said him and his son would come back to them. In the New Living Translation, Heb 11:17-19 declares, “it was by faith that Abraham offered Isaac as a sacrifice when God was testing him. Abraham, who had received God's promises, was ready to sacrifice his only son, Isaac, even though God had told him, "Isaac is the son through whom your descendants will be counted." Abraham reasoned that if Isaac died, God was able to bring him back to life again. And in a sense, Abraham did receive his son back from the dead.”
They that know their God shall be strong and they shall do exploits. Do you know your God and do you know what He has said about you in His Word? When you do, you will not struggle to obey God and do His will. As you put your absolute trust in God's ability to honour and keep His Word, He will not fail you. If you will stand, believe, speak, pray and act in line with God's Word, you too will see the manifestation of the glorious power and grace of God in your life. Believe God; you shall not be put to shame, Rom.10:11.
PRAYER: I believe in you O Lord! I know that your word concerning me shall come to pass. I stand on your word and I rejoice in faith.
