Heartfelt Sacrifices
2Samuel 23:15-17 (GNB)
David grew homesick and said, "How I wish someone would bring me a drink of water from the well by the gate at Bethlehem!" The three famous soldiers forced their way through the Philistine camp, drew some water from the well, and brought it back to David. But he would not drink it;
instead he poured it out as an offering to the LORD and said, "LORD, I could never drink this! It would be like drinking the blood of these men who risked their lives!”David grew homesick and said, "How I wish someone would bring me a drink of water from the well by the gate at Bethlehem!" The three famous soldiers forced their way through the Philistine camp, drew some water from the well, and brought it back to David. But he would not drink it;
A heartfelt sacrifice is a sincere and costly sacrifice. It is a sacrifice that comes from your heart. David was so touched by the sacrifice of his men in our text above that he offered the water to God in the same way an animal would have been offered to God as a sacrifice of worship. David was essentially saying, “Lord I lift up to you what these men have done. Only you deserves this kind of love and sacrifice that these men have shown. I cannot bless or reward them enough for this thing they have done; but I know you can.” In other words, David was indirectly praying for God to bless them for what they did. The amazing thing is that David didn't exactly ask them to make that sacrifice. He simply wished for it.
To make heartfelt sacrifices in all that we do, we must do all we do as if we are doing it unto God. Colossians 3:23 says, “and whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men.” Heartfelt sacrifices can be risky but they will make you stand out and make a difference in the lives of others wherever you are. They will make great things happen through you and people will thank God because of you and pray for you. Heartfelt sacrifices are not for show. They come from the heart and require selflessness. Even if men do not reward or acknowledge you for your sacrifice, do not become bitter. Know that God who sees your heart will bless and reward you Himself. He is not unjust to forget your labour of love, Heb.6:10. Give your best and go the extra mile in all your endeavours today. Do it as a sacrifice and worship unto God, for He deserves it and much more.
PRAYER:
Father, I receive Your grace to go the extra mile in all my endeavours today. May my sacrifices bless and touch lives the lives of Your children.
