Pray and Trust God Wholeheartedly
1 Samuel 30:7-8 & 10b Then David said to Abiathar the priest, the son of Ahimelech, "Bring me the ephod." Abiathar brought it to him, and David inquired of the Lord, "Shall I pursue this raiding party? Will I overtake them?" "Pursue them," he answered. "You will certainly overtake them and succeed in the rescue." *….But David and four hundred men continued the pursuit.
The fact that David could pray in the midst of great distress is wonderful. However, the way David prayed, heard God's voice and stepped out in faith in line with God's leading is equally amazing. The way some believers live reveals the fact that they have lost confidence in God and in the power of prayer. Some believers believe that there are certain things God does not want them to pray about and some believers do not believe that God will answer and speak directly to them if they were to pray about a certain matter. God wants us to pray always (Eph.6:18a) and in everything (Phil.4:6); regardless of whether we are thankful or whether we are afflicted, James 5:13. Jesus Himself prayed a lot throughout His life on this earth. The Holy Spirit is also very willing to empower us and direct us as we pray.
When David was praying, he did not say, "Lord this is what I want to do, so bless it." On the contrary, he said, “God should I do this? Will this plan succeed?” And God gave him a definite answer. By the Spirit of God, you will receive both peace and direction about the situation. He will show you God's mind and what God has freely prepared for you, 1Cor.2:9-12. You will know what to do about the situation, James 1:5. God is always speaking to us; we are the ones who are usually not quiet enough to listen to Him, Psa. 46:10. David went out in faith because God told him to and as they went, God used an abandoned slave to give them further direction. God will confirm His Word to you. As you step out in faith based on the answers you have previously received in prayer, God will give you further direction and use vessels you may not even expect.
PRAYER FOCUS: Open up yourself to God right now and seek His mind concerning your desires. Pray as the Spirit leads you.
