*Grace for Extra Preparation*
_1Samuel 17:39-40 (GNB), Matthew 25:3-4_
_David strapped Soul's sword over the armor and tried to walk, but he couldn't. "I can't fight with all this," he said to Saul. "I'm not used to it." So he took it all off.
He took his shepherd's sticker and then picked up five smooth stones from the stream and put them in his bag. With his sling ready, he went out to meet Goliath. *They that were foolish took their lamps, and took no oil with them: But the wise took oil in their vessels with their lamps._
David knew exactly what he needed to bring Goliath down and he prepared himself very well. He did not just take one stone, but five. Some people believe it was because David knew that Goliath had four other brothers. These four brothers were later killed by David and his men, 2Sam.21:15-22. The most important thing is that David was extra prepared to face the challenge that was before him. Immediately Joseph became Prime Minister of Egypt, he began to work diligently to store up abundant grains for the upcoming years of famine, Gen.41:46-49. What opportunities do you anticipate this year and what goals and targets do you have for this year? The grace of God to diligently prepare for them spirit, soul and body is upon you today. Make good use of this grace.
This year, do not be like the foolish virgins who had no foresight to take extra oil for their journey. It is better to be over prepared than to be under prepared or not prepared at all; especially for things which are foreseeable. The grace of God is not an excuse to be lazy and it is not an excuse for you not to make adequate plans and preparations. Proverbs 21:31 says, “The horse is prepared against the day of battle: but safety is of the LORD. The Holy Spirit will show you things to come and He will grant you the grace to prepare for them. You will not miss great opportunities this year. You will prepare for them, recognize and maximize them as they come. You will manage your time and resources well.
Prayer Focus:
Receive God's grace to prepare yourself adequately for opportunities and all your desires this year.
