*The Overflow of the Spirit*
_Ephesians 5:18-19 (AMPC); Act 4:31 (NIV)_
_And do not get drunk with wine, for that is debauchery; but ever be filled and stimulated with the [Holy] Spirit. Speak out to one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, offering praise with voices [and instruments] and making melody with all your heart to the Lord. * After they prayed, the place where they were meeting was shaken. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and spoke the word of God boldly._
God wants His word to fill and overflow from our lives, He also wants His spirit to fill us and overflow from our lives. Jesus said, ...rivers of living water shall flow from the inmost being of anyone who believes in me. (He was speaking of the Holy Spirit, who would be given to everyone believing in him, John 7:38-39 (LB)). Like we studied yesterday, during an overflow, the substance inside the container is revealed and has an effect on its surroundings. Just like with the word of God, when there is an overflow of the Holy Spirit in our lives, our entire being and consciousness are affected. There is a divine boldness that comes upon us. There is a greater consciousness of God's divine presence and activations of that same power that raised Christ from the dead, which is in us, Eph.1:18-20.
When a person is drunk, it can be said that the alcohol has begun to overflow or take over the person's consciousness. While excessive consumption of alcohol can cause people to sometimes misbehave, the overflow of the Spirit causes us to behave just like Christ and function in the anointing. As Jesus went about doing great exploits because He was anointed with the Holy Ghost (Acts 10:38) by the anointing of the Holy Spirit, you too will also go about preaching the gospel and doing great exploits in every area of your life. The overflow of the Spirit also produces great joy in our hearts and great love for others, Acts 2:42-47, Psa. 133:1-3. Two major ways that will stir up the overflow of the Holy Spirit are filling ourselves with the word of God (Col.3:16) and praying in tongues.
Action Point:
Pray in the Spirit right now and stir up the overflow of the Spirit in your life.
Pray in the Spirit right now and stir up the overflow of the Spirit in your life.
