Be watchful in all things

2 Timothy 4:5 (NKJV), 1Peter 5:8-9 (AMP)
But you be watchful in all things, endure afflictions, do the work of an evangelist, fulfill your ministry. *Be sober [well balanced and self-disciplined], be alert and cautious at all times. That enemy of yours, the devil, prowls around like a roaring lion [fiercely hungry], seeking someone to devour. But resist him, be firm in your faith … knowing that the same experiences of suffering are being experienced by your brothers and sisters throughout the world.

To be watchful is to be very observant, sensitive and proactive. It is about not taking things for granted and seeing ahead and responding appropriately as at when due. There is never a safe time to be slack and lackadaisical about any area of your life. In Matthew 24:43 (NIV), Jesus said “but understand this: If the owner of the house had known at what time of night the thief was coming, he would have kept watch and would not have let his house be broken into.” Many times, when God is leading you to do something in any area of your life, it is because of what He knows that you may not know. Never take God's leading for granted. That simple obedience can avert a whole lot of negative occurrences for you.

According to Ecclesiastes 9:11, speed, strength, wisdom, understanding and skill are not what make people win, get rich and have favour in life; rather it is the understanding of times and seasons because time and chance happen to them all. Being a watchful person will help you to understand times and seasons and know what you are supposed to do per time, like the sons of Issachar, 1Chro.12:32. Never let down your guard. Don't stop doing what you know is right. We have a very cunning, persistent and evil adversary. Be watchful in triumphant times and in trying times. Remain focused and keep striving forward to be all that God has called you to be in Christ and in every area of your life, Phil.3:14.

PRAYER: I receive your grace Lord; to be more sensitive and proactive in every area of my life. Help me to be watchful and never take your leading for granted in the Name of Jesus.
