| Growing in the Love of Christ | |
2Corinthians 5:18, 20 (GNB) All this is done by God, who through Christ changed us from enemies into his friends and gave us the task of making others his friends also. *Here we are, then, speaking for Christ, as though God himself were making his appeal through us. We plead on Christ's behalf: let God change you from enemies into his friends!
Our Christian life is not just about enjoying the things that Christ has done for us. It is about knowing that God has sent us into the world in the same way that He sent Christ into the world. This means that God wants to use us to touch and bless the lives of others, just as He used Christ to touch and bless our lives. There is a passion that Jesus had that caused Him to successfully carry out the divine mission God gave Him. There is a relationship with God that He maintained.
In the same way Jesus was consumed with the zeal and passion to preach the gospel, do God's will, manifest God's power and reconcile men to God, we also need to be consumed with this zeal and passion. God's utmost desire for our lives is that we are conformed into the image of Christ, Rom.8:29.
As we continue to behold the glory of Christ, we will be changed into His image from glory to glory by the Spirit of God, 2Cor.3:18. We behold Christ's glory as we meditate on God's word and as we worship and spend time in His presence. We must do this with all our hearts. Knowing and becoming more like Christ must be our utmost passion, Phil.3:10. We must continue to desire for Christ to be formed more and more in us. We must also desire to love people the way Christ loves us so that we will indeed be extensions of His grace, love and power everywhere we find ourselves.
PRAYER FOCUS: Ask God to form Christ more in you and cause you to burn with more of Christ's power, zeal and passion.
