Receive God's Touch in Your Heart

Revelation 3:14, 17-18 (GNB)
"To the angel of the church in Laodicea write:… *You say, 'I am rich and well off; I have all I need.' But you do not know how miserable and pitiful you are! You are poor, naked, and blind. I advise you, then, to buy gold from me, pure gold, in order to be rich. Buy also white clothing to dress yourself and cover up your shameful nakedness. Buy also some ointment to put on your eyes, so that you may see.

Are you judging and evaluating yourself by God's standards or the standards of this world? God does not see as men see. God sees the heart (1Sam.16:7) and His word penetrates and exposes our hearts, Heb.4:12-13. In our text above, Jesus was addressing and describing the state of the hearts of the believers in the Laodicean church. In the eyes of men, they must have looked physically rich and well off, but in the eyes of God they were poor, naked and blind in the spirit. Jesus asked them to buy pure gold, white clothing and ointment for their eyes from Him. I believe Jesus was asking them to allow Him to give them a strong faith and relationship with God, to enable them to put on His virtues and character and to open their eyes so they could see things the way God sees things.

1Peter 1:7 assures us that our faith is more precious to God than gold that perishes. As fire is used to make genuine gold purer, only genuine faith and relationship with God will help us go through trials successfully and emerge better and purer on the other side. Romans 13:13-14 (NIV) says, “let us behave decently, as in the daytime, not in carousing and drunkenness, not in sexual immorality and debauchery, not in dissension and jealousy. Rather, clothe yourselves with the Lord Jesus Christ, and do not think about how to gratify the desires of the flesh. It is only by the help of the Spirit of God that we can see and understand the things of God, 1Cor.2:14. Receive the touch of Jesus in your spiritual life right now.

PRAYER: Lord, I receive Your strength in my relationship with You. Help me to put on Christ's character and to see by Your Spirit.
