Embraced by His Grace
2Samuel 9:1, 3-5 (NIV), Isaiah 30:18 (NIV)
David asked, “Is there anyone still left of the house of Saul to whom I can show kindness for Jonathan's sake?” Ziba answered.., “There is still a son of Jonathan; he is lame in both feet.” “Where is he?” the king asked. So King David had him brought from Lo Debar, from the house of Makir son of Ammiel. *Yet the Lord longs to be gracious to you; therefore he will rise up to show you compassion. For the Lord is a God of justice. Blessed are all who wait for him!

What David did in our first text above represents a small picture of God's attitude towards us because of Christ. Jonathan was dead, but because of the covenant David had made with him, David diligently searched for a member of his household to show kindness. Jesus has made a New Covenant with God by His blood (Luke 22:20). This covenant is established upon better promises than the Old Covenant (Heb.8:6) and is more glorious (2Cor.3:6-11). By your faith in Jesus, you are a member of Jesus' royal household, (Col.1:13); you have been accepted in the beloved, Eph.1:6. Because of Jesus, God is obligated to show you His grace (great kindness).
Mephibosheth, Jonathan's son, was found and brought to David. David then gave all the land and property of King Saul (who was now dead), unto Mephibosheth and appointed Ziba (a servant of King Saul), his sons and all other servants of King Saul to farm on Saul's land and bring the produce of that land to Mephibosheth. David also granted Mephibosheth the privilege to eat at his table continually, 2Sam.9:9-10 & 13. Can you imagine how Mephibosheth might have felt at that moment? Beloved, God has done more than this for you because of your faith in Christ. Everything that Jesus would deserve if He were on the earth right now is what God has made available for you. All of the grace, power and glory of God that Jesus would have been walking in if He were on the earth is what God has empowered you to walk in by His grace.
PRAYER: Dear Father, I receive the great love and kindness You have given me because of Christ. I receive Your abundant grace now.
