Out of the Box' Positive Living
John 13:12-15, 17 (NKJV)
So when He had washed their feet, taken His garments, and sat down again, He said to them, “Do you know what I have done to you? You call Me Teacher and Lord, and you say well, for so I am. If I then, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another's feet. For I have given you an example, that you should do as I have done to you… If you know these things, blessed are you if you do them.

The term 'out of the box' is usually used to describe something that is unusual, unconventional and different from what is generally known or accepted. One of the reasons why the Pharisees and Sadducees did not accept Jesus when He came, was because He did not fit into their 'box' or picture of who they expected Him to be. In our text above, Jesus showed His disciples an example of leadership that they had never seen or heard of. It was so strange that Peter initially did not want Jesus to wash his feet, John 13:8. God does not want us to fit into the negative lifestyles and attitudes that prevail around us. He wants us to live outside of those boxes or limitations in a positive way. This is how we shine God's light that is in us and standout.
God wants us to follow Jesus' example to do what is right even though it is not popular. We are His Ambassadors and we have His life in us. 1Peter 2:21 reminds us that Christ left us an example that we should follow in His steps. God wants people to take note of the fact that there is something different about our lives because of our connection with Jesus, Acts 4:13. Some people will try to despise you for doing right in order to discourage you. Do not yield to their discouragement. Keep being an example in every way possible, 1Tim. 4:12. Be bold and continue to do what is right. God has called you out so that you can stand out. You are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a peculiar person, called out of darkness into God's marvelous light to show forth His virtues and praises, 1Pet.2:9.
PRAYER FOCUS: Thank God for the unique life of Christ that you have in you. Receive His grace and boldness to keep standing out positively.
