THE POWER OF DREAMS
TEXT: DANIEL 2:47-49
During some revival meetings, a woman under deep conviction of sin could not find peace. She asked the preacher and heard from him the way of peace, but was still in deep distress of soul. She could not understand the message and still thought she must do something for her own salvation. She went home, knelt in prayer, fell asleep on her knees
and dreamt. In her dream, she was falling over a precipice and clutched at a twig to save herself. A voice said, ‘Let go the twig,’ but still she clung to it with all her might. ‘I cannot save you unless you let go the twig,’ came the voice again. With strength almost spent, she let go and found herself in the Saviour’s arms. She woke up and realised God had just showed her clearly the way of salvation in her dream.
God used dreams to get the attention of Nebuchadnezzar, the king of Babylon. His wise men were occupied in different disciplines of magic, enchantment, astrology and divination, yet, none of them could help recall his dream, which he had forgotten. Daniel eventually revealed the dream and its interpretation to the king after a vision from God. King Nebuchadnezzar was moved by the fact that God can give such knowledge to men. He declared that there was no other god but the God of heaven.
God reveals Himself to people in ways that are meaningful to their own particular circumstances. He still reaches people today through dreams. Has God reached you through the medium of dreams or revelations concerning your sins and you are yet to take any serious steps about it? Do not wave it off. Accept Christ today and be spared the doom that waits unrepentant sinners.
