Be Reasonable

Be Reasonable

SUNDAY
JULY. 23

Romans 12:1 (KJV & GNB)
I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. *So then, my friends, because of God's great mercy to us I appeal to you: Offer yourselves as a living sacrifice to God, dedicated to his service and pleasing to him. This is the true worship that you should offer.

Would you consider it reasonable for the prodigal son, after his redemption, to leave the exceeding great love and kindness that his loving father had shown him to return to a life of eating pig food, Luke 15:16? How about the woman that was caught in adultery, John 8:3-11? Would it have been reasonable for her to return to her sin following the incredible way that Jesus extended His mercy and spared her life? Why do you think it would not be reasonable? Of course, I’m sure your answer is that if these people genuinely comprehended the extent of the love, kindness and mercy they had been shown, they would be hesitant to displease the one who had shown them such love and hesitant to place their lives in jeopardy again.

This is the same way that our understanding of the great and unrelenting love that God has shown us in Christ causes us to offer our lives, minds and bodies to Him in an effort to please and appreciate Him. We must always keep the great love and mercies that God has extended to us in Christ in view or fresh in our minds, as we are instructed to in our text above. This is the foundation for everything that we do in our lives and our walk with God. Every other foundation is faulty and will not last. You can only build on what Christ has done, 1Cor.3:11. Our good works do not save us. Only the good and perfect work of Christ saves us. However, our understanding and appreciation of God’s great mercy and the good and perfect work of Christ produces good works in our lives.

PRAYER: Heavenly Father, I worship and thank you deeply for the great mercies you have shown me in Christ. I offer myself totally to You..
