Luke 8:46, Acts 3:6-7 .. Jesus said, Somebody hath touched me: for I perceive that virtue is gone out of me. *…Peter said, Silver and gold have I none; but such as I have give I thee: In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth rise up and walk. ..he took him by the right hand, and lifted him up: and immediately his feet and ankle bones received strength. And he leaping up stood, and walked, and entered with them into the temple, walking, and leaping, and praising God.
There are two primary words used to describe virtue in the Bible and they both carry very powerful meanings. The first word used for virtue is dunamis, which means miraculous power. It also speaks of mighty ability and abundance. This is the word Jesus used after the woman with the issue of blood was healed when she touched Him. This word is also used in Luke 16:17-19. In that passage, immediately after Jesus chose His disciples, the Bible says that a great multitude came to him from Judea, Jerusalem and the sea coast of Tyre and Sidon. The Bible records that they heard him and that virtue went out from Him to heal them all.
The second word that is used for virtue is arête which means valor and excellence. Valor speaks of boldness and courage, especially in the face of danger and excellence speaks about good and admirable qualities and attributes.
This is the word used in 2Peter 1:3 where the Bible refers to God’s divine power giving us all that pertains to life and godliness through the knowledge of Him that has called us to glory and virtue. Every virtue you need is in Jesus. As you exercise your faith in Jesus right now, every virtue you need is filling your life right now.
