2Timothy 1:6-7, Romans 5:5b (GNB),
Wherefore I put thee in remembrance that thou stir up the gift of God, which is in thee by the putting on of my hands. For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind. *…for God has poured out his love into our hearts by means of the Holy Spirit, who is God's gift to us.
God is love and is in you. Because of God’s life that is in you, you have the ability to love others in the same way God loves you. In John 13:34-35, Jesus commanded us to love one another just as He loves us. It is by this expression of love that men will know that we are His disciples. Jesus would not have commanded us to love one another the same way that He loves us if He has not empowered us to do so.
Love is an action word. Just like faith, you need to stir up and release love both with your words and by your actions. It is the love that God has for us that stirs up His nature of love that is already in us, 1 John 4:10-11 (NIV). Keep experiencing the love of God both in worship and in meditation on the Word of God. The more you experience the various depths and dimensions of God’s love for you, the more you will be filled with God’s fullness, Eph.3:17-19.
The Holy Spirit will also help you both to receive God’s love and to walk in love. Our second text above reveals that God has poured out His love into our hearts by means of the Holy Spirit. Galatians 5:22 confirms that love is a fruit of the Spirit. You have the seed of love in you because you are a new creature that is filled with God’s Spirit. As you continue to yield yourself to the leading of the Spirit of God in you, this seed of love will continue to grow and mature and you will manifest more of the fruit of God’s love. You are a loving person. In Christ, God has empowered you to love others just as He loves you.
PRAYER FOCUS: Thank God for His life and love that He has placed on the inside of you. Receive His grace to continue to receive His love for you and to continue to express it to others.
