2 Kings 2:9-10, 14 (NIV) … "Let me inherit a double portion of your spirit," Elisha replied. "You have asked a difficult thing," Elijah said, "yet if you see me when I am taken from you, it will be yours — otherwise not."* Then he took the cloak that had fallen from him and struck the water with it. "Where now is the Lord, the God of Elijah?" he asked. When he struck the water, it divided to the right and to the left, and he crossed over.
In Luke 18:27, Jesus reassured us that the things which are impossible with men are possible with God. Child of God, don’t let men discourage you out of what God says is possible. Fix your hope and attention on God and not on men.
In John 3:27, John the Baptist noted that no man can receive anything except it is given to him from heaven. God may use men to do things in your life but you must never forget that it is God that is your source and not men.
Elijah could not give Elisha a double portion of what he had because he had only one portion of it. Only God could give Elisha what he was asking for and that is what happened. God used Elijah but it was God himself who gave Elisha what He was asking for.
After Elisha took up Elijah’s mantle, he went back to river Jordan and struck it in the same manner he had seen Elijah do. However, note that he said something very powerful: “Where is the Lord God of Elijah?” He did not say, “Where is the Elijah of the most High God?” His faith was in God and not in man. He realized that God was with Him and so he opted to call on God. Beloved, place your faith in God. He is with you and He will never leave you. Nothing can stop you from doing great exploits for God. Eyes have not seen, ears have not heard and minds have not imagined the things that God has in store for you because you love Him. He will reveal these things to you by His Spirit (1Cor.2:9-10) and He will manifest them in your life by His Spirit also.
PRAYER: My eyes are on you, O Lord. I know that all things are possible with you so I trust you to manifest Your will in my life.
