FAMOUS FOR FAITH
TEXT: ROMANS 1:8-17
KEY VERSE: ”First, I thank my God through Jesus Christ for you all, that your faith is spoken of throughout the whole world” (Romans 1:8)
Many churches today are famous and noted for several things. They boast of their architecture, glass windows, organs, choir and great orchestra, suave and eloquent preachers, the number of millionaires who attend their services, large membership and so on.
In the passage under consideration, Apostle Paul talks about the church in Rome. He had not, up to the point of writing this epistle, been there physically but had heard so much of their faith in Christ. The church was famous for their doctrinal soundness. They did not just hold to those doctrines and creed and merely profess them in empty and dry recitations; they lived them out practically for all to see. It was this practical demonstration of their faith and profession everywhere they went that people took note of. It is worthy of note that the faith of the church in Rome became known through the spoken word, without the aid of any media.

When a group of Christians is obedient to the Lord and propagates its faith, it doesn’t take long for a whole city or state or even nations to be talking about the group. A church should become famous because of its willingness to stand for and propagate the truth of the Bible, not by any of those things that would attract the media.
Individual Christians make up the church; hence, we must practice our professed doctrines in our day-to-day living. This not only gladdens the heart of the pastor, but also reveals the genuineness of the faith that we profess and draw others to the Lord. This is what is most important to God.
Are you known for real faith that others can testify to or an empty and hypocritical religious lifestyle? Let your faith become a testimony to the world.
THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: Let your faith inspire others to serve God.
COVER to COVER: EXODUS 22-24.
PONDER:
1. The Roman Christians were known for evangelism. What are (not were) you known for in your family, church and working place? Reflect๐Ÿ™๐Ÿ™
2. v 9 gives a reason for the dynamism of the Romans Christians in v8. A lesson for leaders. 'Without ceasing' .
3. Satan hindered the Apostle 'oftentimes' IThes 2:18. Why? The answer is in v11,13,15. If Satan can hinder an Apostle several times, who can he not hinder?
4. Why did Satan succeeded so many times? It is doubtful if the Roman church was really praying for him because they never saw him as at the time of writing.
5. Why was Paul not ashamed of the gospel v16? Faith + Gospel = power of God
HYMN: May God depend on you
1. In the warfare that is raging
For the truth and for the right,
When the conflict, fierce, is raging
With the powers of the night,
God needs people brave and true:
May He then depend on you?
Refrain:
May the Lord depend on you?
Loyalty is but His due;
Say, O spirit, brave and true,
That He may depend on you.
2 See, they come on sable pinions,
Come in strong, Satanic might,—
Powers come, and dark dominions,
From the regions of the night;
God requires the brave and true:
May He then depend on you? [Refrain]
3 From His throne the Father sees us;
Angels help us to prevail;
And our leader true is Jesus,
And we shall not, cannot fail:
Triumph crowns the brave and true,—
May the Lord depend on you? [Refrain]
PRAYER POINTS:
1. Prayer fervently on what you want to be known for in your family, campus, church and among coworkers.
2. Pray against the enemies assigned against your local pastor to weaken and hinder him from fulfilling his vision for the church.
3. Pray against the spirit assigned to your prayer life not to be engaging the powers of darkness on behalf of your local pastor in spiritual warfare.
4. Pray against all the devices of Satan to hinder believers from aggressively preaching with power.
