Reason for Doing Good Works

1 John 3:8b (NKJV), Acts 26:16 &18 (NKJV), John 17:4 (NKJV)
For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that He might destroy the works of the devil. *.. rise and stand on your feet; for I have appeared to you for this purpose, to make you a minister and a witness … to open their eyes, ..to turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan to God, that they may receive forgiveness .. and an inheritance ...' *I have glorified You on the earth. I have finished the work which You have given Me to do.

The most important reason for doing good works is so that we please God as well as glorify Him. As we please God and glorify Him by doing His will and completing the work He has called us to, we are causing His kingdom to come and His will to be done on earth as it is in Heaven. We are God's vessels and channels through which He wants to destroy the works of the devil and fill the earth with His love, grace, power and glory.

Another reason we are to do good works is so that we can touch and bless the lives of men. God wants men to be so blessed by our good works that they will glorify His Name, Matt.5:16. Do you remember how the lam man that was healed leapt and praised God in Acts 3:8? Do you also recall how there was great joy in Samaria because Philip preached the gospel to them (Acts 8:8)?

We also do good works to grow and become more like Christ and to grow in the fruits of righteousness, 2Cor.9:10, Phil.1:11. As we do good works by expressing the life of Christ that is in us, God increases our capacity to manifest His life and His righteousness. When we are faithful with the little capacity that God has given us to do good works, God gives us more. When we do good works, we are fulfilling our purpose for being on this earth. We are doing what we were saved and made for, Eph.2:8-10.

PRAYER: Dear Father, I want to glorify You, to fulfill purpose, to bless lives and to grow into more of Christ. Use me for good works today.
