A REIGN OF RIGHTEOUSNESS
TEXT: PSALM 72:1-20
KEY VERSE:”In his days shall the righteous flourish; and the abundance of peace so long as the moon endureth.” (Psalm 72:7)
An American Christian commentator who was summing up where things are and where they are going, following the American 2015 Supreme Court’s ruling that made same-sex marriage a right nationwide wrote: “The world is upside down, inside out, sideways crazy, nutsy. Bad is good, up is down, left is right; right is wrong; evil is good; insanity is sanity. Abnormal is normal..." The Western world is especially moving quickly away from its foundations. Christians who believed that God instituted marriage between a male and a female and have the gall to suggest that the best environment to raise children is when they have both a mother and a father are now labelled crazy hate-filled bigots.

Man’s rule on this planet has been a dismal failure since the fall. It has been characterized by oppression, injustice and corruption. We have endured the evil of slavery and suppression in which were man’s attempt to gain superiority over another. Adding the problem of oppression is man’s gross misunderstanding and misjudgment about what qualifies a personality to be called God. This has brought many to the worship of animals, birds, nature, and even fellow human beings.
The coming reign of Christ will overturn all unrighteous edicts of rulers and kings of this world. It is described in our text as a period of unprecedented peace, comfort and prosperity. It is compared to the refreshing rain after a long period of drought. It will be a time of justice for the oppressed; all people will worship the same God. There will be no more worship of the various deities held in reverence in many parts of the world today.
You can have a foretaste of His reign of peace and righteousness even now! How? Repent of all sins and receive Christ as Saviour.
THOUGHTS FOR THE DAY: The best from God is yet to come
COVER to COVER: EXODUS 25-27.
PONDER:
1. The text is David's prayer for Solomon v1 whose reign in Israel supposed to be a prototype of the millennial reign of Jesus over the whole world.
2. Solomon failed because you cannot be detracted or defiled, no matter how little, by the lust of the flesh, lust of the eyes or pride of life and still fulfil God's purpose for your life.
3. His reign shall be characterized by justice, righteousness v2,3, security of lives v7,14, rest and prosperity v6,7, no multiple religions v11, economic empowerment for all v12,13, prosperity and abundance of food v16.
4. No king in the world has been able to achieve this goal set by the King of kings.
5. The millennial reign will give way to heavenly habitation - a land that is fairer than day. Will you be there? Strive to enter...
HYMN: In the sweet by and by
1There's a land that is fairer than day,
and by faith we can see it afar;
for the Father waits over the way
to prepare us a dwelling place there.
Refrain:
In the sweet by and by,
we shall meet on that beautiful shore.
In the sweet by and by,
we shall meet on that beautiful shore.
2 We shall sing on that beautiful shore
the melodious songs of the blest;
and our spirits shall sorrow no more,
not a sigh for the blessing of rest. [Refrain]
3 To our bountiful Father above
we will offer our tribute of praise
for the glorious gift of his love
and the blessings that hallow our days. [Refrain]
PRAYER POINTS:
1. Give me the will and the grace to part with anything or anybody that will hinder me from fulfilling your purpose.
2. Jesus, our rulers have failed us. Come in mercy and take over the government of this nation on your shoulder.
3. Lord, subdue all the powers contending with your rulership over this nation.
4. I long to make heaven. Make me fit and ready.
