The Source of Our Good Works
1 John 5:11-12 (GNB), John 14:11-12 (GNB)
The testimony is this: God has given us eternal life, and this life has its source in his Son. Whoever has the Son has this life; whoever does not have the Son of God does not have life. *Believe me when I say that I am in the Father and the Father is in me. If not, believe because of the things I do. I am telling you the truth: those who believe in me will do what I do---yes, they will do even greater things, because I am going to the Father.

God will never ask us to do something that He has not empowered us to do because that will be absolutely unfair. In other words, the reason that God wants us to do good works is because He has empowered us to do it. The source of this empowerment is the life of Christ that is in us. Because of the Life of Christ that is in us, we can do good works, just like Christ. The life of God that resides in us is not in any way inferior to that which is in Christ. It is one and the same. As He is, so are we in this world. In the Good News Bible, 1John 4:17b assured us that “… our life in this world is the same as Christ's.”
Another major factor that caused Jesus to engage in what He did was His strong consciousness of the life of the Father that resided in Him. Until you and I maintain the same level of consciousness, i.e., that the same life Jesus has is what we have right now, we will not be able to do the kind of works that Jesus did. The more we maintain this strong consciousness, the less we will struggle to do good works. Good works will no longer be something that we are endeavouring to do; rather, they will become natural to us because of the life of Christ that is in us. Everything you know that Jesus did is something that you can do right now. Imagine that.
Remember, greater is He that is in you than he who is in the world, 1 John 4:4. Allow the life of Christ (the greater One in you) to overflow from you today. Nothing and no one can stop you from doing good works. You are just like Christ and you can do good works in the same way He did.
PRAYER FOCUS:In Christ, God has empowered me to do good works the same way He empowered Christ. Because of the life of Christ that is in me, I can do good works.
