Keep the Fire Burning
Revelation 2:1 -5 (NIV)
"To the angel of the church in Ephesus write: … I know your deeds, your hard work and your perseverance. … You have persevered and have endured hardships for my name, and have not grown weary. Yet I hold this against you: You have forsaken your first love. Remember the height from which you have fallen! Repent and do the things you did at first. If you do not repent, I will come to you and remove your lampstand from its place.

1Corinthians 10:11 evidences the fact that the things that happened in the Bible are examples for us. They were written for us to gain admonition from them. In the message Jesus sent to the church of Ephesus through John, He commended them for holding on and for the things they had endured for His Name. But there was something about them that He was not pleased with.
They had lost the love and passion they initially had for Him. Instead of their love for Him to grow, it had reduced. Instead of them attaining a greater height spiritually, they had fallen from the height they were initially. The reduction in their love affected their works also. The removal of their lampstand was a symbol of their loss of influence. Compromising our love for God, our standards and reducing our spiritual fervency can also cause us to lose the level of impact and influence that God wants us to have as His people.
Can you relate in any way to this message that Jesus sent to the Ephesian church? Is your love for God more now than when you first met Him? If not, today, there is grace for your love for God to start increasing and growing as it should. Our love for God is a reflection of our understanding of His love. We love Him, because He first loved us, 1John 4:19. God spreads His love in our hearts by His Spirit, Rom.5:5. By the Spirit, your love for God can grow today.
PRAYER: Heavenly Father, stir up Your love afresh in my heart by Your Spirit. May my love for You continue to increase, glow and grow.
